If this is Hyundai's new styling direction, I love it! Looks like it could pass for the civilian version of Halo's Warthog. :)

My girlfriend summed it up pretty well (she knows exactly what kind of vehicle I'm looking for): "its like a perfect combo of truck and sports car."

Also, you mean a puma, right? :P

I've never been so interested in a Hyundai that isn't the Genesis line.

My girlfriend has an Elantra GT and, you know, it's solid and looks good but doesn't really do it for me AT ALL.

THIS on the other hand has my full attention.

Kinja'd!!!

Stop the press...

WHAT IS THAT!?!?!?

Subaru won't build anything worth buying, but Hyundai builds a new BRAT?

An actual 2-side-door CUV?

Color me interested if it has any versatility at all....

I grew more and more interested as I read what Torch had to offer and snapped when I read 300 lb-ft. It better damn well have versatility and be coming to a dealer near me.

2.oL Turbodiesel... that should be interesting. It doesn't need to be a speed-machine, that isn't what it is for... but a nice wide-ratio gearbox. Heck, I wouldn't even mind a CVT for a diesel in a non-performance role... it would make sense, if it can handle the torque reliably, and is backed by a reasonably good AWD system.

A bit of cargo versatility... a comment in the other thread mentions a GM-like Mid-gate, which could be very cool, but probably only a wish-list item that might not be a real option. If the bed floor is deep, and the tailgate is articulated properly, the long tailgate would extend the bed measurably when down, perhaps with a flip-out containment cage like the old Explorer SportTrac used... the graphic shows it hauling a cafe racer motorcycle with the gate down.

A slick removable bed cap, or a convertible tonneau cover increase the bed enclosure options. I would hope that Nissan doesn't have an exclusive patent on factory-fitted tie-down rail systems in the bed floor and walls, nor GMC solely using LED cargo lighting.

The rear suspension appears to be roughly centered under the bed for load-bearing, rather than between the rear seats and the bed cargo area, so the cargo leverage on the rear suspension, as well as tongue-weight for towing should be manageable, and with said high-torque drivetrain, and decent brakes and cooling, this thing might actually be able to TOW what it can't internally haul, something that the Subaru Baja didn't do, because of the 'wagon' location of the rear suspension under the rear passenger seats, causing too much leverage for sufficiently practical cargo or towing weight.

Subaru has a 2.o Turbo boxer diesel, and they have manual, automatic, or CVT transaxles... and a good longitudinal driveline with rear torque bias full-time excellent AWD. They could have built this ages ago, but haven't.

If Hyundai builds it... chances are it will probably be SantaFe/Azera platform based, with transverse drivetrain, and rear-wheel Haldex-style assistive AWD, which is passable, somehow I doubt it will be based on the Kia Mojave/Borrego platform that is longitudinal driveline, more like the Hyundai Genesis platform.... but I suppose there is a small chance.
